Mataelpino summer festivities – San Bartolomé

San Bartolomé Festival

Streets of Mataelpino.

(Calles de Mataelpino)

August 24.

San Bartolomé is celebrated on the 24th of August, coinciding with the summer festivals. There is a mass, a procession in honour of the Saint, as well as a Romeria in the park. In addition to the religious activities, you will also find charanga music on the streets of Mataelpino, bullfights, dances, and activities for all the boys and girls.

We should also mention THE RUNNING OF THE BALLS, which is a unique experience exclusive to Mataelpino consisting of some very special runs. It’s a race open to the whole public divided into two categories. In the adult running, a giant ball of expanding foam weighing 150 kilos and measuring 3 metres in diameter chases runners down the path leading to the main square. In the children’s race, the ball weighs much less, but is no less exciting! The idea has reached every corner of the globe and boasts more and more participants each year. We encourage you to visit us during the San Bartolomé Festivals the week of August 24th to take part in and enjoy these “unique runnings” with us.
