Cerceda

  1. Plaza Mayor. This square is relatively small in size and has a curious amphitheatre shape. The town grew around it and it currently houses several municipal offices and the ValleInnova Municipal Business Centre.
  2. Santa María la Blanca Parish Church. The church was built with stones from Cerceda’s quarry. The style was called abulense gothic, a style from the Spanish region of Ávila during the 16th century. It has been designated as a Historical National Monument and the three-part bell tower stands out as a highlighted feature. Inside there is also a pure renaissance style baptismal basin from the 16th century.
  3. Municipal Park. It is a beautiful park, recently restored and extremely well cared for. It serves as decoration for the front part of the Culture House as well as being a place to enjoy a nice rest.
  4. Old School. Like in El Boalo, this building was constructed at the end of the 19th century as part of a comprehensive schooling campaign. It was built with stones from Cerceda’s quarry and has a simple floor along with a semi-circular arch in the entrance. Nowadays, it is used as the town’s Youth Centre.
  5. Traditional Housing. These houses date back to several different time periods, most of them having been built in the 17th and 18th centuries. They are traditional, built from stone, and were typical for stockbreeder families at the time. Most of them are now abandoned or partially in ruins, though they can still show us how the houses were just a few centuries ago.
